Target audience

Indie pop is a genre that originates from independent, do-it-yourself bands, that consist of small fan groups and have possibly released their music to small, independent record labels.

This genre of music is often described to not suit mainstream audiences due to their themes within lyrics.

Indie pop music is becoming more and more popular amongst teenagers and adults within the recent years. This is mostly due to a surge in popularity in the internet, due to websites such as; YouTube discovering talent and music festivals promoting them.

Feedback from questionnaire

From my results on gender I have found out that the majority of people were female more than male. Using this I have found that more females are more interested in this type of music or this style of magazine.

The average age range that fitted in with my target audience was between 16 and 17. This means from my results I need to produce a magazine for a young target audience and the style that they like.

From my questionnaire I have found out the different genres of music my target audience listen to. The majority of were pop and rock/heavy metal. this means i might have to do some research into those genres of music to link with indie.

The colours that my target audience thought associated with indie was:

red, white, purple, yellow, turquoise, light pink, black, blue, green, maroon, orange. this means i will have to use these colours within the magaine to fit the style with indie.

The features that they thought all music magazines should have are:

> Interviews

> Pictures

> Top 10 songs at the moment

>Stories

>Good Music

>New song releases

>Album reviews and who they are similar to.

> Quiz

My audience said that when looking at a magazines the features that catches their eye first were: Cover model on the front, images, the colours, brands, artist, the headline.

Target audience favourite indie bands/artists:

.Two door cinema club

. The kooks

. Vampire weekend

. The Hunna

. Mumford and sons

. Ben Howard

. Catfish and the bottlemen

. The wombats

. Circa Waves

. Little comets

. Bombay bicycle club

. Lana del ray

This means I could include some of these bands within my magazine.

The majority of people that would want freebies included in the magazine were:

80% said yes

20% said no

The people that said yes wanted:

> Free song to download

> Merchandise related to the bands

> Make up

This means I could add a freebie or advertise one within the puff on the front cover of my magazine to grab the readers attention and make them buy a magazine.

The main features my target audience like to look at in a magazine, were: Celebrities, whats popular, images of bands, new albums, good music, images, information on bands, interviews and Posters/ concert dates.

I decided to add a question about what my target audience thought about what clothes associated with indie. This was because I could make my band members fit this style and what typical indie bands would dress like. They said skinny jeans/ripped, baggy t-shirts, vintage clothing, leather jacket and  dr martin boots.

When looking at the front cover These were the features they wanted to stand out the most on the front cover:

> Artist/Cover model

> Masthead

> The colours

> Story/headline

Most of my audience that took the questionnaire said that they dont read magazines however they were familiar with the brands of Q and NME. This means I could use a similar style or layout from these magazines.
